Blog Post #8: Power Outtage

The power was out at school for the last two hours of class on Friday. My old apartment (where my friends still live) had the power out for 12 hours straight this weekend.

What do you normally do when you have a power outtage at home?
Are there any fun games that you play/ things you do?
What is the biggest bummer from a power outtage?
What is the coolest part about it when it happens?
What was the longest stretch you remember the power being out for?

  1. When there is a power outage in my house, I usually run around the house screaming for 10 minutes. Then try to play video games but notice there is no power. Then look out the window for about an hour looking at the rain pouring on side walk. The longest time that a black out happen was about 2 days. The coolest part of a black out is that you can play glow in the dark nerf gun wars, or go outside if it’s not raining and look at the stars.

  2. 1. When there is a power outtage at home i just play with my itouch or play a game with my family like scrabble or uno.
    2. Yes there is, monopoly, uno, scrabble.
    3. there is no hot water, or tv, or electricity.
    4. the coolest part is if it happens in school we get to leave after if it happens for more than 1 hour.

  3. When I have a power outtage, I normally just wait a couple minutes for it to come back on. If it takes long, then I either play with my little brother or I just do whatever. The biggest bummer from a power outtage is that you can't really do anything. Like watch tv, have hot water, heater, or cook anything.
I don't really think there is a cool part about it. The longest I remember is a couple hours but not that long.

  4. Typically, during a power outage, I would start whining loudly about whatever I was doing being messed up now that the power outage happened. I’m usually glued to my computer or Wii, so I’m pretty hopeless without them. I could play my PSP, but then it’s such a hassle to open the drawer right under my computer desk and take out the PSP… in the dark. The most fun activity I’d most likely do (and have done during blackouts for years) is just snooze until I hear my brother cheer, “Yay! The power is back!” The biggest bummer about power outages is that I don’t have my computer, Wii, or even lights to do my homework. I’m basically trapped into doing absolutely nothing but sleep and hope that my PSP was charged before the blackout. The coolest part about blackouts… I guess that would have to be the nice-smelling candles strewn all over the house and the part where my brother is thrown into panic about the house being dark and spooky. I have no clue how long the longest power outage in my house was, considering that it’s been forever since I’ve actually seen a blackout before Friday. I just know it was over an hour… but blackouts are more than likely over an hour anyway.

  5. When there is a power outage all I do is lay down and get bored then fall asleep. I wake up a few hours later if there is power I play my wii or anything else but if there isn’t any power yet I go back to sleep. I usually don’t play any games but sometimes we find a flashlight and move all the furniture and we start to rough house and push people until some gets hurt. My GameCube a while back got messed up when power came back up smoke started to come out of my GameCube so we threw it away. You get to hit someone and they don’t know who it is that’s really fun . . . . . until someone hits me. I remember one that lasted 5 hours when I lived in San Bruno.

What my family and I usually do is just put on candles and just wait it out. When there is a power outtage at home I just use my laptop without the cable and talk to my friends about the power outtage at my house or I just listen to music through my mp3 player. The worst thing about the power outtage is the fact that all the stores are closed down, which happened last Friday. The coolest part about a power outtage would have to be the darkness. The longest stretch would probably have to be the 2 hours that happened last Friday.

When the power goes out at my house we just light candles and wait for the lights to come back on. We can usually play any games cause there aren't any lights and we can't see anything. The worst thing about a power outtage is when you're in the shower and the lights turn off. The best part is you get to light candles and sometimes they smell good. The longest time the power was out was for two whole days for my family. But that's as long as it has been out in the past.

When there is a power outage, I would usually just sleep, eat, or text my friends. If my cousins are over, we would usually pull out some board games and a flash light or play some games like Ooom Chuck! The biggest bummer is that you can’t watch t.v or go on the internet! I CANNOT live without the internet. It’s like the only thing I can do besides doing all the chores and such. The coolest thing is that at night time, the family would sometimes come over when there is a power outage and we would tell funny/scary stories. The longest power outage I experienced is probably a day.

  11. play board games.
monoply is my favorite board game.
having a black for a whole day that's a bummer.
    playing monoply is cool.
    for 7 hours.

When we have a power outtage at home we just get candles lit and we bring out flashlights, thats just in case its at night. What we did this one power outage, it was my uncle's birthday, we lit a bunch of candles, and we ate cake plus melted ice cream, then we played with the fire, it was pretty fun, i used to be scared of fire, but im kind of not anymore. The biggest bummer from a power outage, is not getting to charge your phone or your computer, and you dont get to use the house phone, and its a bummer especially at night, cause then i get scared to use the bathroom x) The cool part is the ghost stories :D even though i get partly scared after. The longest was probably the whole night.

  13. When I'm at home and I have a power outtage, I basically just go to sleep or just listen to the radio I have which is battery operated. The biggest bummer from a power outtage is not being able to have a stove to cook food, or hot water. The coolest part about it when it happens is that you don't have to do any work and you can have a party in the dark with flashlights and glowsticks. The longest stretch I remember the power being out for is 5 hours. It was dreadful, and I had nothing to do except sleep and it was a Saturday night.

If there was a power outage I would normally just use my itouch until the battery dies and listen to music at home. Sometimes, if I had nothing to do during a power outage I would find some food downstairs and eat, because I’m bored and have nothing else to do. Or if there’s light outside, I’ll go play badminton or volleyball.
The biggest bummer from a power outage is if you were taking a shower and the lights suddenly turns off. It has happened to me before and I couldn’t see anything. Good thing it only lasted for a few minutes, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to dress myself properly. The coolest part about a power outage is being with your friends and telling scary stories to each other or play outside.
I think the longest power outage I’ve experienced has been about 12 hours long. I was around the age of eight or nine. I remember I set up the tent inside the house and burned marshmallows. I thought it was a fun thing, because my dad wasn’t using the computer and actually played poker with my siblings and I.

when the lights go out at my house i usualy just light some cadles and listen to music or go on my fone. but i like black out i think their fun and i might not like the dark but i like black outs. but what sucks when the power goes out is that if im ether on the computer or if im watching tv i miss my show or love the information i do on the computer. the coolest thing about a black out is that you get to play in the dark and light candles and enjoy the nice quiet :)and the longest was all day it was really boring so i went to the mall. but i think black outs are fun but then they suck. :)

  17. When there's a power outtage I usually try to read a book or something. Now I have an ipod so I guess that I'd listen to that now. I don't think that my family has board games and if we do they don't want to play with me. Uh, biggest bummer is not having light. Yeah the coolest thing is getting to pretend you're a ghost. The longest stretch was about two days and that sucked because I had to go to a wedding the next day.

  18. The thing you normally do during a power outtage at home is I light most of the candles in my house or I go out to check if my dads house has a power outtage. There are a few games me and my family play like Monopoly or checkers or Pictionary. The biggest bummer about a power outtage is that the TV and the computers don't work, me and my family are usually always on the computer or watching tv. The coolest part about a power outtage is that I get to bond with my family and we get closer because none of the electronics are distracting us. The longest time without power was about four hours or so.

  20. When o have a power outage at home, usually I go to my nanas house, there is likely to have someone there. Or I go and hang out with a friend. My aunt and I would probably try to find something to eat because we would be board, but the stove won’t work. The biggest bummer for me would probably be the stove doesn’t work. For me it’s cool when it gets dark, and you’re just trying to find things to do, and you kind of, in a way bond with the person that you’re with. I can’t remember, because I think I was little, but I think it was for a long time cause we ended up having Chinese food with candles.

  21. Well what we normally do is we light all the candles that we have in the house and we put them around the house were we need them like the living room, kitchen the bed rooms, and the bathroom so that we can see when the sun goes down and we can no longer see. Well what sometimes we do is sit down on the couch and talk and tell stories because we have no electricity but they are interesting stories so its ok. I think that the biggest bummer of having no power is having no light because even though we have the cool looking candles for our light at night time we blow them out to prevent fires when were sleeping, so that means no light if I have to get up to use the bathroom at night or get a glass of water one time I actually walked into the frige in the middle of the night because I was thirty and it was pitch black cause the power was out that night all I remember is hearing a big thump and getting a headacke. I think that the coolest part of an outage is having to use candles and and telling interesting and scarry stories to each other. I think the longest time that we had an outage was about 8 hours. I personaly think that power outages are fun.

UGH! I hate power outtages! I normally try to sleep or go out if there's a power outtage at home! Sometimes ill just play with my lil brother around the house and keep him entertained with all his toys untill my parents get home from work or something comes up. The biggest bummer is NO COMPUTER, TELEVISION, OR CELL PHONE CHARGER! grrrr. i HATE that the most i didnt realize how much i need power until it first went out! I'd say the coolest part about it is when im with my WHOLE ENTIRE FAMILY, especially the kids and we play "Hide and go war" in the straight dark at night. Its sooooo fun running on the tables and jumping on the couches and climbing the walls! But the longest stretch was from like 6pm-7am. Omg, I felt like life was over!

  23. when the power goes out at my home. my mom likes to play games, dad likes to read the newspaper, i listen to my ipod, play psps,or go to sleep, because i get scared when the power goes out. the longest time the power went out for me was when our transformer blew up, it was out from 5:00pm to 7:30am. it sucked. the big bummer is when you have to go to the bathroom when everyone is asleep, because its more scarier because you feel alone, and its dark.

Whenever there is a power outage at home, I usually find some ways to get electricity on. An example would be the last time I had a power out at my house due to the hard rainstorm; my dad had a 2,000 watt generator that we use to go camping so we can play video games and watch T.V. there. My dad and I did the same thing to that time when we had a power out during that rainstorm. My dad and I first went to Home Depot to buy an outlet that can hold about the same watts as the generator. It was a really expensive outlet that my dad bought. It was like around fifty dollars. So anyway, my dad plugged almost everything in the living room including the big T.V. and the Comcast cable box. When he turned on the generator, everything worked except for the cable because the cable was also out when the electricity died out. So instead, we watched a bunch of DVDs. The power was out for like almost the whole day. The manager of the whole block was also working on the electricity. That was the longest power outage that I have ever been through. The only thing that stopped the generator was gas. It was no problem to us because the gas station was just right across the street from us. So I guess nothing really stop us from not getting electricity. The only bad part about the power outage was that there was no cable. It dies out when the main electricity dies out.

  25. When there is a power outage at home I will usually use my phone and text or just go out, maybe take a nap depending how long the power outage is, if there is a power outage and like my friends are over or something last time we played clue and monopoly by candle light or prank call people being bored or go out we don’t really mind that the powers out its all good, the biggest bummer when there’s a power outage is that you can’t charge or phone or listen to music, the coolest part of the power outage is that when its late it gets completely pitch black and I love scaring people, the longest stretch of a power outage that I have been through was probably about hmm… maybe about 14 to 16 hours long, it was the longest black out I’ve been through so far.
